Song Story #1
Creating this song was one of the most difficult things I have done to date.
The song began with one idea: Noise.
I wanted to make a song that captured the idea of how the “noise” in our lives can drown us. Noise can create a sound so loud that we no longer can hear the voice of God.
So I took that and ran with it. (You'll notice this idea most in the bridge)
In addition, I really resonate with the enneagram. To put it simply, it is an ancient "typing/personality" system. The word ennea means 9 and in this typing system their are 9 different types. Christ Huertz, writer of The Sacred Enneagram, would add that, “…it(the enneagram) exposes nine ways we lie to ourselves about who we think we are, nine ways we can come clean about those illusions, and nine ways we can find our way back to God.” I chose to focus on the “nine ways we can find our way back to God” for this specific song.
While crafting the lyrics I really wanted to be able to have every person that listened to it have at least 1 line that they connected with.
Each verse was divided into a different intelligence center
"In trouble and chaos may our hearts find rest in You"
"In defeaning silence may our minds find solace in You"
"Awaken this body to the weight of carrying Your Name"
The chorus was written to remind us that regardless who you are, God is in pursuit of relationship with You.
"You draw near to us... You are here with us"
It is the reminder that we are all different, but God still desires relationship with you.
You are worthy of an intimate relationship with God!
Each line in the bridge is counterweighted with a Holy Idea (ENNEAGRAM) and represents each personality type.
"For where hatred abounds may there be love
When lies take root may truth overcome
Where folly is spoken may wisdom abound
When doubt is inflicted faith and trust resound
When I stand in the way, may I see as You see
When I forget whose I am, speak my origin to me
When I’m only stirred to do, remind me to be
When I feel the world hurting, release freedom within me
When it all seems to be breaking,
Recall to my mind perfection in thee"
Ultimately, I hope you find yourself written within the fabric of this song.
God desires relationship with you!
